Jazz, also American modern dance, is a rhythmic style of dance that is rapid yet dynamic. While ballet is reserved in nature, restricting dancers to an existing set of positions and forms, jazz dance is identified by the freedom in its movements. It originated as an extension of African dance, and thus jazz pursues the lively and joyful aspect of dance. Over time, jazz has evolved away from its origins in free improvisation, developing its own style and working its way into popular culture. Adapting to the requirements of modern performance dance, the freestyle nature of jazz has slowly been limited and reformed into a dance style where freedom and discipline coexist.
We offer jazz dance classes for both youth and adults.
