Jiaying You (Yoyo)

Dr. You is the Artistic Director and Head Instructor at Yoyo School of Dancing. She teaches Chinese dance and adult classes. She obtained her master’s degree in dance studies from the Chinese National Academy of Arts in 2008, and completed her PhD in dance studies at the University of Alberta in 2016. She previously taught dance at the People’s Liberation Army Arts College in China and participated in organizing various competitions held by the Chinese Dancers Association, such as the ethnic Chinese dance competition “Lotus Cup” and the national children’s dance recital “Xiao He Feng Cai”.

 

Tongtong Zhang (Ella)

Tongtong Zhang (Ella) graduated from the Guangdong Dance Academy in 2003, and the renowned Beijing Dance Academy in 2012 with a major in dance performance and education. She received a gold medal in the 2008 International Dance and Music Competition in Singapore, first places in the 2010 Chinese Huabei Five Provinces Dance Competition, and first place in the 12th Beijing Dance Competition in 2011. Since joining Yoyo School of Dancing in 2014, she has led our students to participate in various international and domestic dance competitions and win many first prizes, special awards, and full scholarships.

 

Jinjin Du

Jinjin graduated from the Heilongjiang Vocational Academy of Art in 2002 with major in dance and from the Harbin Normal University in 2006 with a major in dance choreography. She has 15 years of experience in stage performance and dance instruction. She has directed and performed in many dance pieces that received awards on national, provincial, and municipal levels in China. She likes to tell the students that studying dance is a process during which you continuously rebuild your confidence; dance is not rewarding because of all the techniques you master, but because of all the confidence you gain!

 

Chandelle Murray

Chandelle has 17 years of experience in dancing, performing, and competing as well as 7 years of experience teaching dance. She has a Royal Academy of Dance Ballet grade 3-Intermediate teaching certification and an Acrobatic Arts teaching certification. She has participated in many solo, large, and small group performances and competitions for dance styles such as pointe ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, and contemporary. She has circus/aerial training, which includes lyra, trapeze, rope, silks, and straps. She has taught acrobatics to students ages 4-18 (all levels, beginner-advanced), some of which have placed first in acrobatics competitions in the United States. She is also a certified instructor with the Yoga Alliance.

 

Carla Benavides

Carla is a Dance Instructor, Choreographer, Performer, and Artistic Director at Aya Sol Company. She graduated from Grant MacEwan University with a Modern Dance Diploma. For the last 15 years, Carla’s focus has been in Hip Hop, House, Funkstyles, Heels and most recently, Reggaeton. She has travelled Canada, United States, Spain and Cuba performing and furthering her dance education in these street styles.

 

Chang Liu

Instructor Liu graduated from the Kaifeng Cultural Art Occupation College with a major in International Ballroom Dance and further studied at the Beijing Dance Academy. She is a gold star level 2 in Latin dance and a level 1 in modern standard dance. She has won various awards at International Ballroom Dance championships. She previously served as the choreographer for a salsa group as well as a dance movement demonstrator and instructor. She is an expert at teaching International Ballroom Dance (10 styles including 5 Latin dances and 5 modern standard dances) at the beginner or intermediate levels.

 

Danni Bai

Danni 1

Danni, the adult Yoga instructor, studied under Indian and Canadian Yoga masters, and is a member of the Yoga Union Association. She has been teaching Yoga since 2011 with a mixture of Eastern and Western Yoga ideals. She teaches the traditional Yoga breathing techniques, positions, and meditation.

 

Yiting Jin (Yolanda)

Yolanda

M. Jin graduated in 2014 from the University of Alberta with a major in Nutrition and Food Science and a minor in Human Ecology. She is currently employed as a level 3 Personal trainer at Goodlife Fitness and is certified as a personal trainer and healthy eating weight loss coach. She specializes in body weight training and high intensity interval training.

 

Levi Borejko

Ms. Borejko is a graduate of the University of Alberta’s drama program. She has experience and training in a variety of theatrical disciplines including classical acting, musical theatre, clown, and improvisation. She is also an award-winning director and playwright.
